Came here because we saw some decent reviews on Google. It was a Saturday afternoon when we came. The food was ok. Soup dumplings were a bit cold by the time we received our order. The entire order took a while to be prepared, and it turns out the crepe was the hold up. Felt like the kitchen could’ve timed the rest of the items better to keep everything fresh/hot. The pan-seared buns were actually far juicier and tastier than the soup dumplings and definitely the start of the meal.

They also sell frozen items as well.

We came here because of a friend’s recommendation, and it turned out to be great! We enjoyed the fried soup dumplings, steamed soup dumplings and Jian Bing. Those dumplings were very juicy. The side dishes such as cucumber and sichuan cabbage were also pretty good. It’s a nice place for a quick bite.

I got the Shen Jian Bao (pork soup dumplings) here, and they were decent
The dough on the outside was nice and soft, and the bottom had a brown-ish texture, indicating shallow frying

the inside was a bit lacking, though. it felt like mostly soup rather than having much pork filling. the pork inside was fine, but nothing special
for about $10, you get 5 dumplings, which isn't a bad price, but I wouldn't say it makes you full

overall, these are perfectly average dumplings, but there are better places. 7/10

1. Salty - both jianbin and noodles were overpowered by saltiness. We selected extra spicy option for the jianbin and the result was a jianbin that was smothered by a chilli oil similar to laoganma (a popular Chinese chilli oil brand) - see picture of oil residue in tin foil. The dandan noodle on the other hand was unconventionally not spicy and seemed to contain too much salt or soy sauce.

2. Portion size - specifically for the dandan noodle. Definitely not worth the $12!

3. Value - in spite of increased cost of living, neither the flavour nor the amount of food justified the high price for me.

Overall the fried buns were the best out of the food we ordered since the soup dumplings were mediocre at best. It would be a stretch for me to recommend this establishment; especially if you were travelling from far away as you may leave disappointed.

There’s only two restaurants in the court - XCJ and a poke place. I placed my order on the iPads in front and waited. The pan fried pork buns were good, crispy, and very juicy however the meat was rubbery. The sweet and savory noodle (zha Jiang mian) was way too sweet and the veggies were very soft - I would not recommend this dish.

I've known this place previously through their soup dumplings which i ordered as a subscription. I applaud them for pivoting to a mail order service during the pandemic.
We've finally gotten a chance to go there in person and dine in. My suggestion is actually to do take out rather than dine in. That place currently doesn't have much of an atmosphere, but the food is pretty good, regardless of what you order. And the mail ordered soup dumplings are just as good as the ones you get here. That's a compliment for the high quality of their frozen dumplings. The reason why you would do take out over the mail order is that you can get their pan fried dumplings (careful when you bite into them, the soup will splash out ?) and their dandan noodles are pretty yummy.

YES!! I finally made it out to XCJ! I first found out about them through their frozen soup dumplings which I think are incredibly easy and delicious to make. But then, I read about how they were actually locally famous for their SJB. It’s a style that I had in Shanghai 10 years ago - thin not doughy wrapper with soup inside with the meat/veggie filling and fried/steamed like a pot sticker. Having grown up with the fluffy bao version, my mind was blown by this style which I was eager to try XCJ’s version. I was absolutely in love with their SJB! Large SJBs with LOTS of soup. We had to be careful not to squirt soup across the table when biting (which happened). Great flavors all around. Our friends and my family ordered so many of them! I hope they can figure out a way to do deliver SJBs frozen. I’m a little hesitant to experiment with the frozen soup dumplings pan-fried potsticker style, but maybe that will work back in Austin.

Please note this review is based on the mail order option. I live in Illinois so can't visit the physical restaurant.... yet!!! I may plan a special trip to California just to visit after having the mail order though.

I bought the noodle pack and loved the Fan Dan, I will probably just buy a 6 pack of Dan Dan next time though tbh. the other one was good but not to my liking. I like the spicy noodles!!!!! I've been on tv for a ghost pepper chicken taco eating contest in Chicago so I know heat. These are hot but not too hot, with a ton of flavor. I just need to pick up green onions for them!!!!

The dumplings are great!!! I bought the bamboo steamer - and heat water up in one of my woks. Then put the bamboo steamer in the wok. I make a special sauce using a spicy peanut sauce, a Japanese BBQ sauce and a local pumpkin hot sauce. Together it's heaven. And the best part of this is there is little prep, with even less clean up!!!! I can't say enough good things here!!! I'm highly satisfied at this quick meal.

The skewers I only made once. And I'll reserve comment till I can try them again.
